Keeping a dog as a pet is both a joy and a privilege;

With this privilege you have a responsibility to care for your pet, make provisions when you are away, and take it to the vet when your pet is unwell. Most dogs are bought for the joy and love a pet brings, they instantly become a member of the family, a dog of course requires a lot of love and affection and plenty of care a clean dog is a happy dog, to achieve this he or she will need a regular grooming calendar. Grooming requirements differ accordingly to the dog’s breed, type of coat and owners preference.

Grooming serves two main purposes;

· It keeps the skin, coat and nails in a healthy state

· Through routine grooming, for some dogs this will mean a daily or weekly trip to the groomers that the dog plus his master will enjoy and respect.

· Human intervention in dog breeding has led to a variety of coat textures and lengths each with individual grooming needs. Selective breeding has also been responsible for dog coats that require frequent brushing, stripping or clipping. As groomers we learn to check carefully for the tell tail signs when bathing and drying hair, we will help the dog’s owner to solve the problem before it worsen or to seek vets advice. It is always in or interests to advise the owner if there are any changes in your dog’s skin or coat. When we clean the ears we also examine swabs for any kind of discharge.

Detailed Procedure

The Initial Brush.
This is the first step for your dog. Your dog is thoroughly brushed, all mats and tangles are removed.

Pre Bath Clipping.
Some dogs such as Poodles or Sheep Dogs can have a great deal of their thick coat clipped before bathing, this can also save on washing and bath time.

Bathing.
The bathing time should be a pleasant experience, we also like to message the dog as further treatment after applying the shampoo.

Nails.
After or during the grooming of your dog their nails are clipped and filed. Dogs nails should be cut regularly especially if kept inside.

Clipping.
Good clipping is an art it should be done kindly with consideration. Our Bark staff get to love and understand each individual dog they see regularly, they always talk and encourage them though the process.

Ears, eyes and teeth.
The groomer will clean the ears and the eyes carefully if requested, we will clean the teeth (toothbrush and paste provided by the owner).

Beautifying.
After the grooming process is all finished the groomer will check she has done a good job to the satisfaction of the owner. Then some finishing touches such as a bow or ribbon maybe added.
